The Classical Period ( 1750-1820)


The classical period is described as The Enlightenment.

Classical style in music - emphasis on clarity, order and balance, simple texture, mainly in homophonic texture. (Student, feel free to add any features of classical period if you know any of them), use of alberti bass, etc...


THe four giants in the classical period .. Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and J.C.Bach


Everyone can now enjoy and attend concerts because of the development of public concerts. In Baraque period, the aristocracy hire the composers to write music for them or for the royalty. Now, the composer can survive without being as an employee of these rich people and more people were exposed to music. The development of public concerts increase the popularity of orchestra. As a result of all these process, symphonies music became 'the pop music' of their days.


Popular works by composers.... the sonatas. symphonies and chamber music.
